Itinerary

  • Activity 1 Fort Jesus Museum

The Fort is located in Mombasa City on the coast of Kenya. Designed by Giovanni Battista Cairati, it was built by the Portuguese in 1593-1596 to protect the port of Mombasa. The Fort is one of the most outstanding and well preserved examples of 16th Portuguese military fortification and a landmark in the history of this type of construction.

The Fort’s layout and form reflected the Renaissance ideal that perfect proportions and geometric harmony are to be found in the human body. The property covers an area of 2.36 hectares and includes the fort’s moat and immediate surroundings.

  • Activity 2 Old Town of Mombasa

Old Town is an area of Mombasa, Kenya. Situated on the south-east side of Mombasa Island, the Old Town covers an area of 72 hectares, and is inhabited by a mix of Swahili, Arab, Asian, Portuguese and British settlers.

  • Activity 3 Elephant tusks

The Mombasa tusks, also referred to as Mapembe ya Ndovu or Pembe za Ndovu (Swahili for elephant tusks), form a monument over Moi Avenue, a major thoroughfare in Mombasa, Kenya. Built in the 1950s to commemorate visits by the British royal family, the monument originally comprised two wooden structures resembling tusks; nowadays, there are four aluminum tusks in an M shape.

The monument is under the jurisdiction of the National Museums of Kenya in addition to the city's municipal government.

  • Activity 4 Water front park

Mama Ngina drive is located next to Likoni ferry. It offers scenic view of the Indian ocean and cool temperatures away from the Mombasa Island heat.

  • Activity 5 Floating bridge

The Liwatoni Pedestrian Floating Bridge is the first of its kind in the region and is designed to ease pressure on the Likoni ferry crossing by taking up most of the foot traffic, leaving the ferries to serve vehicular and cargo crossing between Mombasa Island and the South Coast

  • Activity 6 Spice Market

This market, which stretches along Nehru and Langoni Rds west of the Old Town, is an evocative, sensory overload – expect lots of jostling, yelling, wheeling, dealing and, of course, the exotic scent of stall upon stall of cardamom, pepper, turmeric and curry powders, with stalls along Langoni Rd selling delicious street food.

  • Activity 7 Haller Park

The park is situated on the North Coast of Mombasa along the Mombasa-Malindi road, next to the Bamburi Cement factory on the Kenyan coast. Haller park was established in 1971 after transforming one of Bamburi Cement’s abandoned quarries into an ecological area.
